The L Magazine, April 2003

Hi. I'm Danny Stedman, and this is my personal site.  Over the past ten years, my brother Scott and I have grown Northside into a multi-platform business with several media properties including Brooklyn Magazine, tastetalks.com, BAMbill and The L Magazine and several large-scale festivals including Northside Festival, SummerScreen and Taste Talks, and well as a creative agency working with many of the most innovative companies in the world.  I'm also an award-winning film director and live in Brooklyn. I like deli coffee, gluten, and salisbury steak.

Our Story

The Stedman Brothers launched The L Magazine in April of 2003, in a time when no one was talking about Brooklyn, but everyone was moving there.  New York City was the destination for a generation of dreamers, and Brooklyn was the only affordable rent.  The result was hundreds of thousands of dreamers within a couple of square miles, and "Brooklyn was reborn."  SummerScreen was launched in the McCarren Pool in the summer of 2005.  The annual Northside Festival was created in June of 2007, and then followed Brooklyn Magazine, a partnership with BAM to produce the BAMbill, and Taste Talks.

As Brooklyn has become an international adjective meaning "what's next" our mission is to define and showcase that adjective through our three magazines and our large-scale festivals.
